BNP Paribas today announced the appointment of Margaret Ren as Chairman and CEO of Corporate Finance, Greater China. She will report to Christian de Charnace, Head of Corporate Finance, Asia Pacific.

Margaret’s appointment enhances BNP Paribas’ long-term growth strategy for Greater China and it underscores the Bank’s commitment to capitalising on the abundant opportunities emerging in the investment banking sector in this region. Her leadership is timely as the Bank is well-positioned to expand its already strong presence and uptier franchise in Greater China.

Margaret brings with her a wealth of experience in the financial industry. Prior to joining BNP Paribas, Margaret was Managing Director and Chairman of China Investment Banking at Merrill Lynch (Asia Pacific) Limited.

“It is a major step to have someone of Margaret’s calibre and experience come on board,” said Ms. Mignonne Cheng, Head of North Asia, BNP Paribas. “She is a pioneer in investment banking in China and as a result we have a significant opportunity to further strengthen our strategic dialogue with clients by expanding our Investment Banking capabilities in Greater China. Margaret’s extensive network and her in-depth knowledge of the market will be an invaluable asset to our investment banking business.”

“We intend to further strengthen our leading positions in the equities and M&A sectors by providing best-in-class product offering and services to our clients. Margaret’s appointment is a logical step in our expansion strategy for Asia. With her experience and proven track record, coupled with BNP Paribas’ product and global reach, I am very confident that we will grow our business in strides by enabling us to maximize on cross-selling opportunities inherent in our Corporate & Investment Banking as well as Investment Solutions platforms in Asia,” said Christian de Charnace.
